All Is Not Calm: Last-Minute Tips for the Countdown to Christmas

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Right?!

If your gifts aren't all purchased, wrapped, and tucked away just waiting for the big day, you are not alone. In fact, I barely have enough time to get through a blog post. That's exactly why this will be a short, quick list designed for the last-minute, get-it-done high achiever.

1. Make that list and check it twice.

With so many people to visit, gifts to buy, and work to be done, your lists will be your best friend. Write it all down, or use those nifty notes apps on your phone to prioritize and leave less room for last-minute panic. Setting calendar reminders and timers will also help keep you on task.

2. Choose your battles wisely.

Enlist help wherever you can this week. Do you love shopping and wrapping, but cooking and baking just isn't your thing? There are amazing options from big box stores, like Costco to your local bakeries, that have got you covered. Paying a few dollars more is so worth it when your time can be spent elsewhere. Think about other areas that you can let go of what is not absolutely necessary for you to control.

3. Make time for those that matter.

Make it a priority to be with those family members and friends that fill your heart with joy. Don't make yourself so busy that you miss being present and really enjoying time with those who mean the most.

4. Choose wisely—food that is.

You know that you are going to have extra treats or drinks at the next gathering. Be sure to eat healthy choices and drink more water leading up to the party so that you are not just piling on and digging yourself into a deeper hole of holiday weight to take off.

5. Just breathe.

Don't just make it cliche. Really breathe. Take time to count your blessings. Look around for every opportunity for thankfulness. Be a bigger giver in whatever area possible—not just the material things. Don't compare yourself to others. Sit back and enjoy this glorious season!

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Isaiah 9:6

How do you remain calm during this hectic time? What are you most grateful for even in the face of so many to-do lists?
